Moong Dal Chilla

Breakfast High-protein PCOS-friendly Diabetic-friendly Vegetarian Gluten-free

A savoury lentil pancake thats high in protein and gentle on blood sugar. Great for breakfast or a light dinner.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup yellow moong dal, soaked 3-4 hours
  • 1 inch ginger
  • 1 green chilli
  • 1/4 tsp hing
  • 1/2 tsp jeera
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 tbsp chopped coriander
  • 1 tsp oil for cooking

Method

  1. Drain the soaked dal and grind with ginger, chilli and a little water into a smooth batter.
  2. Stir in hing, jeera, salt and coriander.
  3. Heat a non-stick tawa and lightly grease it.
  4. Pour a ladle of batter and spread into a thin circle.
  5. Cook on medium till the edges lift, flip and cook the other side.
  6. Serve hot with mint chutney or curd.

Tips & notes

Add grated bottle gourd or spinach to the batter to sneak in extra veggies. Keep the oil minimal — a non-stick pan does most of the work.
